The winner of this year's Michael L. Printz Award for excellence in literature written for young adults is:
Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta - Abandoned by her drug-addicted mother at the age of eleven, high school student Taylor Markham struggles with her identity and family history at a boarding school in Australia.

Four Printz Honor Books also were named:
The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing, Traitor to the Nation, Volume II, The Kingdom on the Waves by M.T. Anderson - The stunning conclusion to the National Book Award winner and New York Times bestseller recounts Octavian's experiences as the Revolutionary War explodes around him.

The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks
by E. Lockhart - The acclaimed author of Dramarama and The Boy Book now delivers a story about a girl who goes from being mildly geeky to a teenage knockout to--a criminal mastermind.

Nation by Terry Pratchett - After a devastating tsunami destroys all that they have ever known, Mau, an island boy, and Daphne, an aristocratic English girl, together with a small band of refugees, set about rebuilding their community and all the things that are important in their lives.

We’ll discuss Whistling Season by Ivan Doig. The saga of how a widow from Minneapolis and her brother—soon to become the new teacher in a tiny Montana community in 1909—change lives in unexpected ways.
